How it works

From browse to certified.

The City & Guilds route, step by step. Our CPD courses skip the in-person assessment and certify you on completion.

1

Browse and choose

Pick your course and check what it asks for. The price includes VAT and your City & Guilds exam fees.

2

Pay and enrol

Pay by card, or in three with Klarna. Your login arrives by email and the online material opens straight away.

3

Book your practical

Choose an assessment date at our Derby centre that suits your diary. You have twelve months to book and attend.

4

Get certified

City & Guilds mark the assessment and issue the qualification, usually within a few weeks of you passing.

For employers

Training a team?

Your staff study around their shifts and come to Derby for the practical. Every one of them gets a City & Guilds certificate and a practical assessment record you can show an auditor.

What changed

Three dates that affect your work.

The regs moved. Your training should too.

BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 has been out since April 2026 and has been the only valid version since 15 October 2026, with page and appendix references moved with it. Our 18th Edition course is written to A4, so what you learn matches the book on your bench.

Why it counts

Who stands behind your certificate.

A certificate is only worth what the name on it is worth. Here is whose name that is, and who checked the course before it reached you.

Training near you

The classroom and practical are in Derby.

Wherever you start from, the written half is yours to do at home. These pages cover the courses, the travel and the questions we get from each part of the region.

Questions

Before you enrol.

The six we are asked most. If yours is not here, say what you do now and what you want to be doing.

Which course should I start with?

If you are updating to the current regs, the 18th Edition. It is the usual starting point before 2391, and if you are already qualified, PAT testing, EV charging and Solar PV add a specialism.

Is the theory online?

Yes. The written half of every course is online and you work through it at your own pace. Your access lasts 12 months from the day you pay.

Where is the practical?

At our training centre, Floors 1 and 2, 4 Babington Lane, Derby DE1 1SU. You book your date from your portal once you have enrolled, and you are assessed in person.

Does the price include the exam?

On the City & Guilds courses, yes: the online course, your materials, your practical and the City & Guilds fees, with nothing more to pay on the day. Safe Isolation is the exception, where the practical is booked separately.

Do I need to be an electrician?

For Solar PV and EV charging, yes: a Level 3 electrotechnical qualification, an ECS Gold Card or a JIB card. PAT testing and Safe Isolation have no formal entry requirement.

Can I spread the cost?

Klarna splits any Green Skills course into three payments at checkout. A business can ask for an invoice instead, and you get a VAT invoice either way.

Can you train my team?

Yes. Tell us how many people and which course, and we will come back within one working day. Your staff work through the theory around their shifts and come to Derby for the practical, so nobody loses a week on site. Each of them gets a City & Guilds certificate and an assessment record you can show an auditor.
